Innovative solar tracking technology - manufacturer required

REQUEST from Germany, reference: BRDE20190806001, valid from 07-08-2019 untill 08-08-2020

Business
  • Start date:
    7 augustus 2019 (3 weken geleden)
  • End date:
    8 augustus 2020
  • Summary:
A German engineering SME with extensive experience in solar energy has developed a new tracking technology for single axis PV (photovoltaics) trackers to reduce the Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE). As the SME does not have sufficient capacities to produce the tracking technology themselves they are looking for a manufacturing agreement with a partner from the automotive or steel production sector experienced in mass manufacture of lightweight steel structures.
  • Description:
The German SME has more than 30 years of experience in solar energy, is one of the leading technology engineering companies for concentrator and collector design, expert in structural engineering, optics, drive system, including receivers for CSP (Concentrating Solar Power) power plants. They also have vast experience in parabolic trough collectors, heliostats and towers for tower solar power plants, point-focusing dish systems, concentrating photovoltaics (CPV), as well as non concentrating PV experience in 2-axes tracking, non tracking ground mounted systems. The company has been involved in over 60 solar projects, provided its technologies to about 20 CSP plants so far, engineering experience in 17 countries, over 4 continents, and they now want to enter the single axis PV tracker market with a proprietary design.

In 2018, the single-axis PV tracker market was over 20 GW, continuously growing.
The company already has extensive engineering and technology marketing experience from CSP (single axis trough collectors and dual-axes heliostats and dishes), but also recently gained new insight into the state-of-the-art of PV tracker technology as a professional hired consultancy, working as owner ‘s engineer for PV tracker review (structural integrity) for world-leading project developers. It is now looking for a manufacturing partner who is able to produce a newly developed PV tracker according to the specifications of the SME.
The new tracker system is aiming to reduce Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE) by cost reduction of the tracker cost by ~ 10 % by utilizing an innovative structural design, compared to the current cutting edge benchmark technology, based on the relevant techno-economic analysis including actuators, structure and foundations. Along with the investment of the SME’s substantial industrial know-how and experience, valuable intellectual property rights will be filed in appropriate form (e.g. patent, utility model, etc.) and being shared with cooperative partner based on the agreed investment structure.
As the company does not have the capacities to produce the tracking technology themselves, they are looking for a manufacturing agreement. Preferably, the partner should be from the automotive or steel production sector and might also have ambitions to become active/ or is already an active player in the PV international market (especially in Asia or Middle East).
Partner Sought
  • Type of Partnership Considered:
    Manufacturing agreement
  • Technical Specification or Expertise Sought:

The partner should have the necessary production capacities and know-how in metal steel manufacture as well as a sales department with international sales experience. The partner should already have developed and distributed commercial products; he should be experienced in mass manufacture of lightweight steel structures and employ manufacturing technologies like laser-cutting and robot welding. They should be ready to perform multi-million dollar projects under tight schedules.

Specific area of activity of the partner: Manufacturer from the automotive or steel production sector
Tasks to be performed by the partner sought: Manufacture the tracking technology according to the requirements of the company. Preferably the partner should also be interested to expand into the PV market. At a later stage of the co-operation the partner might also be able to licence the technology.
Size of partner sought: Industry, large scale steel structure manufacturer and installer, working internationally
